And I half turn to go: invocatio and negation of the Public.
PhD by practice, completed 2018
My research involves the following questions: How does the artwork create its audience? How does it make the audience aware of itself as such, and how is such awareness political? Looking at these matters requires me to consider issues of antagonism and complicity between/within art and audience, also the wider polity. Different models of individual subjectivity - those that various aspects of recent social policy attempted to invoke, for example, along with cultural tropes such as the Dandy and the Bohemian, will also be considered with reference to their impact on the public persona of the artist.
